Minor in Mathematics

The focus of the minor in mathematics can take many directions. Students pursuing a minor should discuss their academic and career interests with a department faculty member.

Core Required for all Mathematics Minors

  • MA 251
  • MA 252
  • One MA 400-level course
  • Additional three or four credit courses listed below.

Students majoring in Natural Science, Computer Science, Engineering

  • One MA/ST 400-level course and two MA/ST 200-level or higher
    OR
  • Four MA/ST 200 or 300-level courses

Students majoring in Social Sciences, Humanities

  • Three MA/ST 200-level or higher

Students majoring in Business

  • MA 301 
  • ST 210 or EC 220
  • MA/ST 300-level, or MA/ST 400-level, or EC 405, or EC 420, or EC 425

Students majoring in Elementary Education

Students must take a total of seven courses, which includes ST 210. 

  • ST 210 
  • MA 103, MA 104, one course at the 300-level or above, and one course at the 400-level
    OR
  • MA 103, MA 395, one course at the 300-level or above, and MA 431 as a 400-level course
    OR
  • MA 104, MA 395, one course at the 300-level or above, and MA 441 or MA 442 as a 400-level course.

All students receiving a math minor must take MA 251, MA 252, one MA 400-level course, plus additional three or four-credit courses listed below:

Students graduating with a degree in elementary education  (1)  or (2a) , or (2b) 

Students graduating with a degree in a natural science, computer science, or engineering must take MA 251, MA 252, one MA 400-level course, plus three or four additional MA/ST courses: one at the 400-level plus two at the 200-level or higher, or four at the 200-/300-level.

Students graduating with a degree in the social sciences or humanities must take MA 251, MA 252, one MA 400-level course, plus three additional MA/ST courses at the 200-level or higher.

Students graduating with a degree in business must take MA 251, MA 252, one MA 400-level course, plus three additional courses: MA 301, ST 210 or EC 220 , and one of: MA/ST 300- or 400-level course or EC 405 or EC 420 or EC 425 .
