Charles E. “Ted” Herget, Jr., ’62, former Loyola trustee and founding member of the Sellinger School of Business and Management Board of Sponsors, died Thursday, March 2. He was 83.

Herget served on the University’s Board of Trustees from 1976–1981 and was chair from 1980-81. He was a founding member of the Sellinger Board of Sponsors in 1981 and served continuously on the Board of Sponsors for years. Even after he was named an emeritus member in 1990, he continued to participate actively on the Board of Sponsors for years.

Herget, who established an endowed scholarship at Loyola, was awarded the University’s prestigious Alumni Laureate Medal in 1985.

“Ted was an important member of the Loyola community. I always enjoyed seeing him at one of our Loyola gatherings,” said Brian M. Oakes, ’99, MBA ’10, Loyola’s vice president for advancement. “I spoke with him not long ago, and we discussed his affection for Loyola. He will certainly be missed—and be remembered for his leadership, kindness, and generosity.”

A Baltimore, Maryland, native, Herget earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Loyola in 1962. He founded the Herget Foundation in 1991, which has provided hundreds of scholarships and donations to hospitals, universities, and needs-based organizations. He also co-founded Asset Strategy Consultants, an independent consulting firm headquartered in Baltimore. He also served as principal and senior consultant for the firm.

Herget is survived by his wife, Sheila, three daughters, and grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Baltimore, Maryland. He will be remembered in the intentions of a future Mass in Alumni Memorial Chapel at Loyola on March 26 at 11 a.m.
