Loyola speaker series to explore political and social movements

91勛圖厙 will hold its annual Bunting Peace and Justice Speaker Series, which brings leaders, scholars, and activists to Loyola to address timely issues at the intersection of peace and justice. Speakers in November and December will explore nonviolent resistance, social movements, and repression.

The speaker series, made possible by a gift from Mary Catherine Bunting, is co-sponsored by Loyolas Messina student development program and Global Studies program. The lectures will take place in the 4th Floor Program Room of the Andrew White Student Center on Loyolas campus at 4501 N. Charles Street. They are free and open to the public.

Nonviolent Resistance in Palestine
Marwan Darweish, Ph.D.

Marwan Darweish, Ph.D., is associate professor at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. He has extensive experience in civil resistance, conflict transformation, and peacebuilding across the Middle East and internationally. Darweish is co-author of Popular Protest in Palestine: The History and Uncertain Future of Unarmed Resistance and co-editor of Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Contemporary Themes and Challenges.

Anti-fascism and Movement Repression: Exploring Social Movements and Policing
Michael Loadenthal, Ph.D.
Dec. 1 at 5 p.m., with a Reception at 4:30 p.m.

Michael Loadenthal, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Cincinnati. He serves as the executive director of the Peace and Justice Association at Georgetown University, which brings together academics, educators, and activists to explore alternatives to violence and share strategies for peacebuilding, social justice, and social change. He is also executive director of the Prosecution Project, a research platform that tracks and analyzes felony criminal cases involving political violence in the United States.
