First-year and sophomore students who may have missed out on a prom night due to the pandemic are invited to make new memories at a Spring Semi-Formal event at Loyola University Maryland. The “Friday Night Black Lights” themed-event will be held on Friday, March 18, from 8-10 p.m. in McGuire Hall. Midnight Breakfast will be served for students after the dance starting at 10 p.m.

Alexis Faison, ’24, a political science major and the sophomore class president, has helped to coordinate this event with the first-year class president, Chris Lopresti, ’25.

“This event does metaphorically speak to Loyola’s mission. The statement includes the phrase, cura personalis, or care for the whole person. In entering our college experience, we did not have a piece of ourselves in the form of closure,” Faison, who is also in ALANA leadership. “This event will give students of our class a semblance of closure while also reiterating the idea that our fun can also be meaningful to many, myself included. Living in the present moment and being able to dance the night away, while being part of a night of unmatched energy, that is everything.”

Brittany Richmond-Davis, assistant director of the office of student engagement, is assisting students with planning this event at Loyola.

“For those of us who had the opportunity to attend our senior prom, we know all too well how monumental of a milestone that day can be,” said Richmond-Davis. “It’s a steppingstone, a rite of passage, into a new future, one that is bright and full of possibilities. This Spring Semi-Formal at Loyola is a way to bring back some of that normalcy into the first-year and sophomore student lives after many of these students may have missed out on this opportunity due to the pandemic. It is a social opportunity to build connections and create a sense of belonging among, not only the students but to the Loyola community as well.”

Registration for the event is required. For more information and to register visit, .
